سیل از جمله بلایای طبیعی مهمی است که هر ساله باعث ایجاد خسارت‌های مالی و جانی شدیدی به جوامع بشری می‌شود. به ویژه در مناطقی همچون حوزه رودخانه مارون که دارای تغییرات زیاد دما و بارش است، همه ساله شاهد سیلاب های شدید و فراوانی هستیم. پژوهش حاضر با هدف شناخت پارامترهای اقلیمی مؤثر بر سیلاب منطقه، می‌تواند با کارآمدی شبکه عصبی مصنوعی، روش‌های مناسب‌تری را در پیش‌بینی این رخداد به­کار ببندد. روش به­کار رفته در این پژوهش جهت پیش­بینی این فرایند، شبکه ­های عصبی پرسپترون چند لایه و توابع پایه شعاعی می‌باشد که نتایج این دو شبکه عصبی با رگرسیون چندگانه مقایسه گردیده است. بدین منظور داده‌های روزانه اقلیمی چهار ایستگاه ایدنک، دوگنبدان، دهدشت و یاسوج شامل میانگین دمای خشک، بیشینه دما، کمینه دما، تبخیر، بارش، میانگین رطوبت، کمینه رطوبت، بیشینه رطوبت و ... طی یک دوره 16ساله (اول مهر 1373 تا آخر شهریور 1388) به‌کار گرفته شد. با بررسی همبستگی بین این پارامترهای اقلیمی و دبی رودخانه مارون پارامترهای مؤثر بر سیلاب تعیین گردید. از رگرسیون چندگانه جهت تعیین ورودی‌های مؤثر بر سیلاب و مقایسه نتایج با شبکه عصبی استفاده گردیده است. بررسی نتایج نشان می‌داد که شبکه عصبی پرسپترون چندلایه با الگوریتم آموزش پس انتشار خطا دارای همبستگی 73/0 در مرحله آموزش و 68/0 در مرحله آزمایش و میزان نرمال شده ریشه میانگین مربعات خطا (NRMSE) در مرحله آموزش 57/0 و در مرحله آزمایش 66/0 به­عنوان بهترین مدل جهت پیش­بینی سیلاب شناخته شد. مقایسه نتایج شبکه عصبی و رگرسیون نشان می‌داد که شبکه عصبی دارای میزان همبستگی بالاتری نسبت به رگرسیون می‌باشد و همچنین در شبکه عصبی داده‌های واقعی و داده‌های پیش‌بینی شده دارای انطباق بیشتری نسبت به مدل رگرسیون انجام شده می‌باشد.
