ایران یکی از کشورهای خاورمیانه است که با کمبود منابع آب تجدیدشونده مواجه است. به‌عنوان یکی از سیاست‌های اقتصادی- اجتماعی دولت بر استفاده بهینه از منابع تجدیدپذیر، به‌ویژه استفاده مجدد از فاضلاب‌های انسانی و صنعتی تصفیه شده تأکید شده است. از عوامل محدودکننده استفاده از این پسابها وجود عناصر سنگین در آن‌ها می‌باشد. از این‌رو اصلاح خاک برای کاهش این آلودگی یا غیرمتحرک‌سازی فلزات سنگین از اهمیت به‌سزایی برخوردار است. تحقیق حاضر به بررسی اثر اصلاح‌کننده بنتونیت بر غلظت عناصر موجود در خاک تحت کشت یونجه و شبدر از طریق آبیاری با فاضلاب شهری تصفیه شده پرداخته است. در این بررسی عناصر ضروری و سمّی موجود در خاک با رقّت‌های مختلف پساب (0%، 25%، 50%، 75% و 100%) بررسی شد. همچنین به‌دلیل وجود مقادیر فلزات سنگین در پساب فاضلاب از اصلاح‌کننده بنتونیت به‌عنوان تثبیت‌کننده عناصر سنگین در خاک در دو سطح 1% و 3% استفاده گردید. نتایج نشان داد که تیمار %100 پساب-%3 بنتونیت به‌طور معنی‌داری بیشترین مقدار کربن آلی، ماده آلی، آهک، pH و EC خاک را رقم زده است (p<0.05). همچنین افزایش سطح کاربرد پساب به‌طور معنی‌داری سبب افزایش غلظت عناصر ضروری (NPK) در خاک شده است. از طرفی کاربرد سطح %3 بنتونیت نیز منجر به کاهش معنی‌دار فلزات سرب و کادمیم در خاک شده است. به‌طور کلی می‌توان نتیجه گرفت که کاربرد تیمار مناسب فاضلاب می‌تواند به عنوان یک منبع بالقوه آب برای افزایش رشد و عملکرد گیاه و همچنین کاربرد بنتونیت به‌عنوان یک عامل غیرمتحرک‌سازی فلزات سنگین موجود در فاضلاب در روش‌های تولید علوفه مورد استفاده قرار گیرند.
