با توجه به اهمیت حفاظت از منابع طبیعی، تدوین راهبردهای مشارکتی در جهت حفظ و بهره‌برداری از این منابع به‌عنوان ضرورتی بنیادی بیش از پیش احساس می‌شود. با مشارکت مردم در هر پروژه، اجرا و حفاظت آن پروژه با صرف هزینه و زمان کمتر و به صورت مطلوب‌تر انجام می‌گیرد؛ بنابراین هدف تحقیق حاضر شناسایی عوامل مؤثر بر تمایل آبخیزنشینان به مشارکت در طرح‌های آبخیزداری است که از نظر ماهیت، به صورت دو بخش کمی و کیفی انجام شده است. جامعه آماری پژوهش شامل تمامی آبخیزنشینان حوزه آبخیز هزارخانی استان کرمانشاه بود (450=N). طبق فرمول کوکران 207 نفر به‌عنوان نمونه به روش نمونه‌گیری تصادفی انتخاب شدند. برای گردآوری داده‌ها از پرسشنامه و تکمیل آن به‌صورت مصاحبه حضوری صورت گرفت. برای معتبرسازی محتوا از کارشناسان، متخصصین و استادان مجرب آشنا با مفاهیم مشارکت استفاده شد. برای تعیین پایایی پژوهش از روش آلفای کرونباخ استفاده شد که مقدار آلفای کرونباخ برای گویه‌های متغیر وابسته 93/0، برای گویه‌های عوامل اجتماعی 92/0، برای گویه‌های عوامل ارتباطی 85/0 و برای عوامل اقتصادی 89/0 محاسبه شد که نشان داد گویه‌ها هم مسیر بوده و از هماهنگی درونی بالایی برخوردار هستند. نتایج تحلیل همبستگی نشان داد که بین متغیر وابسته میزان مشارکت آبخیزنشینان با متغیرهای سطح تحصیلات، تعداد دام و مساحت زمین روابط مثبت و معنی‌دار و با میزان سن آبخیزنشینان رابطه منفی و معنی‌دار وجود دارد. همچنین، نتایج حاصل از روش تحلیل مسیر نشان داد که مساحت زمین، تحصیلات، عوامل اقتصادی و تعداد دام به ترتیب بیشترین و سن، عوامل اجتماعی و عوامل ارتباطی و منابع اطلاعاتی به ترتیب کمترین تأثیر را بر تمایل آبخیزنشینان به مشارکت داشتند، این عوامل و گویه‌ها 6/68 درصد از میزان مشارکت را تبیین کردند. برای جذب مشارکت عمومی در طرح‌ها، پیشنهاد می‌شود از طریق برگزاری کلاس‌های آموزشی-ترویجی، بهبود برنامه رسانه‌های جمعی و بهره‌برداری از رسانه‌های اجتماعی، انگیزه و آگاهی آبخیزنشینان بیشتر گردد.
